AACSA Hosts 43rd Annual MLK Luncheon

The Time is Always Right to Do What’s Right! – Dr. Martin Luther King

Monday, January 16, 2023, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM PST

[San Jose, CA] (January 11, 2023) - The African American Community Service Agency (AACSA) will host the 43rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King commemorative luncheon on Monday, January 16, 2023, 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, at the Holiday Inn San Jose - Silicon Valley, 1350 North 1st Street San Jose, CA 95112.

The theme of the 43rd year program is inspired by one of Dr. King’s famous quotes, “The Time Is Always Right to Do What’s Right!” The Annual MLK Luncheon is a catalyst for creating diverse community connections ranging from individuals and organizations in the public and private sectors to local high schools, college students, and senior citizens. It provides a unique opportunity for the community to celebrate and reflect on the legacy and life of the renowned civil rights leader, to gain inspiration for a new journey ahead, band together for equal rights and justice, and consider giving back by becoming a volunteer or a mentor.

In honor of Dr. King’s legacy, Amazon is supporting the event as the presenting sponsor. Additional key Dream sponsors include the Golden State Warriors, HP, and Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

This year’s keynote speaker is Symone D. Sanders, prominent author and seasoned political strategist.

Jaden Morgan, Stanford University student and AACSA Student Board Member, will serve as emcee for the program.

In addition to a special recognition for AACSA staff and volunteers, awards will be presented to the following recipients at the luncheon.

Huy Tran - The Drum Major Award, honoring an individual who exemplifies leadership that promotes change in the community.

Antoinette Battiste - The Facing the Challenge Award, recognizes an advocate for the development of organizations that provide services that improve our community.

Justice Vanguard - The Gene Young Award, which celebrates the veteran civil rights leader and is given to an individual who is a community-based unsung hero; one who goes beyond community service but is not necessarily in the same circle of a typical community service group.

Rabbi Laurie Hahn Tapper  - The Spirit of Service for Outstanding Pastoral Service Award recognizes an individual who provides pastoral service that evokes leadership, inspiration, and commitment to ministry.

Tickets, sponsorship, vendors, and volunteer information for the luncheon are available at: AACSA MLK Luncheon 2023
